Aloha from the State Capitol

Thank you for visiting this web site which is here to assist you in communicating with me, learning more about state government and finding out what's happening in our community of West Hawai'i.

This past session we focused on reducing spending, reprioritizing government programs and services, and creating efficiencies.  We were able to pass many policies in differenct areas while overshadowed with the desire to see an end to school furloughs and an improved economy.  In the upcoming 2011 Session, we will need to focus on what needs to be done to get the economy revitalized.

Please consider writing to me repevans@capitol.hawaii.gov and sharing your views.  For example, what do you think are the best ways your legislature can help you?  When it comes to education what matters the most:  1) access to quality preschools; 2) increasing student loans; 3) decrease class size; or 4) more financial support for charter schools?  Do you support tax relief to help businesses expand or to attract new businesses?  I try my best to stay on top of whatʻs happening in the community and share information, in great part by attending meetings and events.  Let us know about community events and meetings so that I or my staff can participate in some way.

If there is anything I or my staff can do for you, please do not hesitate to contact us.  If for example, you know of anyone or any organization that should be recognized for distinguished achievements, or that are celebrating special occasions, let our office know and we can provide congratulatory letters, certificates, or recommend proclamations to the Governor.

I encourage you to browse this web site to learn about the legislative process and to submit testimony on issues important to you.  Check out the other links we've provided on the programs and services of government agencies, the many entertainment and recreational venues and cultural activities that make our islands and its people so unique and calendars of events going on in our communities.  Use the Facebook and Twitter links to contact me and to follow what is happening in West Hawaii and throughout the State.

When in Honolulu stop by, and if you have the time and interest, we can also arrange a tour of the State Capitol for you.

A hui hou, malama pono
